Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover both charts regarding the location of dance classes and the types of classes by age group. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the student states that private studios reached 48% for learners under 11 years old, whereas the 48% figure applies to the overall distribution of locations, not a specific age group. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off abruptly at the end ("and ballet was the"). While an overview is attempted, the confusion of data points and the truncated ending prevent the response from achieving a higher band score. It addresses the task partially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear and disjointed due to frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are attempted (e.g., "Overall," "In terms of location," "However"), but their usage is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as connecting unrelated data points. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt termination of the final paragraph disrupts the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to data reporting such as "proportion," "participants," and "learners." However, there are numerous lexical and collocational errors throughout the text, such as "overwhelming majority location," "college based students" instead of studios, and "dominan" instead of dominant. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and some awkward word choices (e.g., "age teams divided two section"). Spelling mistakes and incorrect word forms occasionally impede clear communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, preposition usage, article omission, and sentence construction (e.g., "The chart illustrates the four place for dance classes namely..." and "It was following by Tap classes"). Punctuation and capitalization errors are also noticeable throughout the text. These frequent grammatical inaccuracies and the incomplete final sentence can cause some difficulty for the reader.
