IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The pie chart shows various places in an Australian town where young people are currently attending dance classes, while the bar chart shows the different types of dance classes in relation to the age groups that take part in them.

Looking closely at the chart, it is evident that private studios account for the largest proportion of members at 48%, followed by school halls at 24%. By contrast, college-based studios and community halls made up only 10% and 18% respectively.

Moving on to the bar chart, approximately 600 children under the age of 11 seem to dance ballet which is double the size of those between the ages of 11 to 16 having 300 members. Again, the under 11 group surpassed the 11 to 16 group in the tap dance attendance by 50. By comparison, the 11 to 16 group attendance for modern dance was markedly higher than those under 11, having more than 500 members.

In conclusion,  the under 11 age group had a higher attendance for both ballet and tap dance, but had a significantly lower attendance in modern dance.
