The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The pie chart illustrates the proportion of locations used for dance classes, while the bar chart shows the type of dance classes taken by students with respect to age group.

Overall, it is notable that private studios constitute by far the largest group of students, whereas college-based studios account for the smallest proportion. In terms of type of classes, ballet dance shows the highest number of students in the lower age groups, while ballet dance and modern dance in the middle age group show the lowest number of students enrolled.

According to the pie chart, private studios make up 48%, nearly half of locations, while school halls make up 24%, just under a quarter. Community halls and others represent 18%, while college-based studios comprise the smallest group, just 10%.

The bar chart shows that under age 11, ballet dance students stand at 600, tap dance reaches roughly 450 students, and modern dance shows the fewest students at 300.
