The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The charts show information about the locations of dance classes and the types of dance classes attended by two age groups. Overall, private studios are the most common location for dance classes, while college-based studios are the least common. In terms of dance types, ballet is the most popular among children under 11, whereas modern dance is the most popular among those aged 11–16.
According to the pie chart, 48% of dance classes are held in private studios. School halls account for 24%, followed by community halls and other locations at 18%. Only 10% of classes take place in college-based studios.
The bar chart shows that around 600 under-11 students attend ballet classes, compared with 300 students aged 11–16. Tap is also popular, with approximately 450 younger students and 420 older students. Finally, about 300 under-11s take modern dance, while the figure for the older group is considerably higher, at around 520 students.
