IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given pie chart illustrates the information about the locations where dance classes are held, while line chart compares the types of dance classes that taken by two different age groups.

Overall, it is apparent that private studios are most common location for dance classes, whereas college-based studios account for the smallest proportion. In term of dance types, ballet is the most popular among children under 11, while modern dance is more popular among those aged 11-16.

In term of dance classes locations, private studios had the largest share, at 48%, while school hall represented 24%. Meanwhile, community hall & other constitute 18% of dance classes location,whereas college-based studios are considerably lower, at just 10%.

With the regards to type of dance classes, ballet is the most popular among under 11,at around 600 students. This is followed by tap, with approximately 450 students, while modern dance accounts for 300 students. Among 11-16 year olds, modern dance is comparatively more popular, with just over 500 students, followed by tap and ballet.

However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and spelling slips, such as 'that taken' instead of 'taken', 'In term of' instead of 'In terms of', and 'school hall' instead of 'school halls'. Despite these errors, the language remains clear and fully understandable to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and comparative forms.
