The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts shows the information about the locations of dance classes and the types of dance classes attended by two age groups.

Overall, private studios are the most common location for dance classes, while school halls are the least popular. Ballet is more popular among children under 11, whereas modern dance is preferred by the older group.

According to the pie chart, 48% of dance classes are held in private studios. School halls account for 24%, while community halls and other places represent 18%. Only 10% of classes take place in college-based studios.

The bar chart shows that around 600 children under 11 attend ballet classes, compared with about 300 students aged 11–16. Tap is also popular, with approximately 450 younger students and 420 older students. However, modern dance shows the opposite pattern. About 300 children under 11 attend these classes, while the figure for 11–16-year-olds is much higher, at around 520 students.
