The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The pie chart presents information about the different locations where dance classes for young people are held in a town in Australia, while the bar chart illustrates the numbers of students attending three different types of dance classes in two age groups.

Overall, most dance classes are held in private studios, whereas college-based studios account for the smallest proportion. In terms of the types of dance classes, there are more children under 11 years old in ballet and tap classes, while modern dance is more popular among children aged 11 to 16.

Private studios account for 48% of all dance classes, making them the most common location. School halls, where dance sessions are conducted after school, represent 24%. Meanwhile, approximately 18% of classes take place in community halls and other locations. The remaining 10% are held in college-based studios, which have the smallest share.

Regarding the types of dance classes, ballet has the highest number of students under 11, at approximately 600, compared with around 300 students aged 11 to 16. Tap dancing attracts roughly 400 students in each age group, making the figures relatively similar.
