IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

A large number of young people, school-going children and teenagers, are taking up dancing as a form of physical activity. There two charts showing data collected from an Australian town.

Chart 1 describes location of such classes. The most popular of which is private studios, close to half the respondents prefer them. The next preference is School halls after classes end for the day. Community halls and college-bsed studios host dance classes for young people.

Chart 2 indicates to the dance forms taken up by the students, furhter divided as per age groups. We can see that amongst primary school students, 10 years old and younger, 600 participants learn Ballet dancing. Whereas, teenagers, aged 12 to 16, are enrolled in Modern dance classes, showing a clear change of preference as per age. Tap dancing, on the other hand, shows a balance of students from both age groups, underpinning a common ground.

Overall, dancing as a physical activity seems popular amongst students, where most prefer to learn from a private studio instructor, than in community halls or as after-school activities.
