Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the line graph. An overall trend is provided in the second paragraph. Key data points are accurately identified, such as the 48% at private studios and the participant numbers for ballet and modern dance across different age groups. However, there are some minor mechanical errors in data reporting, such as stating students under 11 'subsequently participated in ballent dance' (intended to mean subsequently or primarily) and minor descriptive awkwardness. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt adequately, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It is divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, a body paragraph dedicated to the pie chart data, and a final body paragraph focusing on the line graph figures. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect ideas, such as 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Additionally, dance classes conducted at school halls (after-school) was half in percentage from private studios.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different datasets, contributing to overall readability and coherence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to statistical reporting and dance classes, such as 'proportion', 'participation', 'studio', and 'individual'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('propotion', 'ballent', 'manged', 'prefered') and occasional word choice/collocation issues (e.g., 'maximum dance classes were conducted', 'participated in ballet dance'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with varying degrees of accuracy. The spelling and lexical inaccuracies occasionally distract the reader but do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and comparative structures. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'dance classes conducted at school halls ... was half', 'minimum no of classes were manged'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., '300 participation were noticed'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data presented.
