Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially and falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 141 words instead of 150. While the student attempts to cover both charts by mentioning the locations and the types of dance classes by age group, the information reported is often inaccurate or incomplete. For example, data points such as 'tap under age of 11 and 465 students' do not accurately reflect the visual data. The overview is weak, and the response lacks a clear, well-developed summary of the main features and comparisons. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is met, present accurate data directly from the charts, and provide a clearer overview of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The organization of the response is very basic and lacks a clear overall progression. Although the writer attempts to divide the information into paragraphs using transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the end hand', these cohesive devices are misused and mechanical. Paragraphing is poorly controlled, and sentences are disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of ideas. Referencing is often unclear, resulting in a confusing structure. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer needs to group related information logically, use appropriate and natural linking words, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on copying words directly from the prompt, such as 'dance classes', 'location', and 'students'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'It is discuss location' instead of discussing, and awkward phrases like 'private studios studios highest 48%'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student should expand their lexical repertoire by using a wider variety of synonyms and less common vocabulary relating to data reporting, while ensuring accurate word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple, fragmented, or poorly formed clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing verbs, incorrect verb forms ('It is discuss location', 'The dance classes attend'), missing prepositions, and improper article usage. Complex sentences are generally faulty and lack control. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort the meaning in several places. To improve, the writer needs to work on basic sentence construction, ensure subject-verb agreement, use correct verb tenses and auxiliary verbs, and reduce the frequency of grammatical errors.
