Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by mentioning some data points from both charts, such as the 48% for private studios and the student numbers for ballet and tap classes. However, the information is presented in a limited and somewhat disjointed manner. Several of the reported figures contain inaccuracies when compared to the visual data, and the overview includes personal commentary and irrelevant opinions rather than a clear summary of main trends. To reach a higher level, the response needs to fully and accurately cover all parts of the task by reporting key features and making relevant comparisons without introducing extraneous personal thoughts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text is divided into paragraphs, which shows an attempt at organisation. However, the overall progression of ideas is difficult to follow because sentences and paragraphs lack logical links. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, leading to a choppy and mechanical structure. For example, transitional phrases like 'First of all' are used, but relationships between sentences remain unclear. Referencing is also problematic, making it hard to track what the pronouns and phrases refer to. To improve, the writer must ensure that ideas are logically sequenced and that cohesive devices are used more accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words and phrases to describe the charts. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'enjoyness', 'workshop', and 'mariges', which indicate a limited control of word formation and spelling. While the writer attempts to use some task-related terms like 'private studios' and 'ballet classes', inaccuracies in word choice occasionally impede communication. To progress, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, use less common items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent errors. There are persistent mistakes in verb forms, articles, plurals, and sentence construction, such as 'Private studios are the 48% part' and 'after closed the education school'. These frequent errors often strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to increase sentence variety by successfully incorporating complex structures while significantly improving the accuracy of basic grammatical patterns and punctuation.
