Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to describe both charts, the information reported is often inaccurate or confused. For instance, the text claims that the bar chart shows students from different regions and mentions dance performances, which misinterprets the source data regarding age groups and student numbers. Furthermore, the overview is weak, and key features such as the dominance of private studios or the peak of modern dance in the older age group are not clearly or correctly contrasted. To move to a higher band, the writer must ensure that data points are accurately reported from the visual stimuli and that a clearer, more precise overview of the main trends is provided.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response exhibits some organization through basic paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression. The relationship between sentences and ideas is frequently disjointed, and referencing is often unclear (for example, starting paragraphs with abrupt fragments like 'Pie chart, shows...'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in a choppy and repetitive structure. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to use logical connectors more effectively to link ideas and ensure that information flows smoothly from one sentence and paragraph to the next without abrupt shifts in topic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'collage studio get' instead of 'college-based studios account for' and 'taken participate' instead of 'participated'. Spelling errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'students who belonged to country which are developed', impede communication and distract the reader. To improve lexical resource, the writer should expand their range of vocabulary, practice correct word forms and verb-noun collocations related to data reporting, and carefully proofread their work to eliminate basic errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, leading to issues with subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and missing articles (e.g., 'Private studios contains', 'student under 11year old taken participant'). Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices and stray commas interrupting sentence flow. To progress, the student must work on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms and tense consistency, and reducing the frequency of errors that strain the reader's understanding.
