The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The pie chart illustrates the location of dance classes, while the bar chart compares the types of dance classes currently attended by young people in a town in Australia.

Overall, it is clear that private studios took up the largest share, while college- based studios accounted for the smallest share. In the bar chart, ballet was the most popular for children under 11, but modern dance was the most popular for the 11-16 age group.

Regarding the location of classes, private studios have the highest share at 48 percent. The second highest is school halls (after-school) with 24 percent. Community halls and other locations account for 18 percent, while college-based studios are the least popular at only 10 percent.

In terms of dance types, ballet is most popular among children under 11, with around 600 students. In contrast, only about 300 students in the 11-16 age group attend ballet. Tap dancing is attended by around 450 students under 11 and about 400 students aged 11-16. Modern dance is the least popular for the under-11 group, with just 300 students, but it is the most popular for the 11-16 group, with over 500 students.
