Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by addressing both the pie chart and the bar chart. It presents an overview with relevant information, noting general trends such as the popularity of private studios and the shifting preferences between age groups for various dance types. Key features are selected and reported, such as private studios at 48 percent and modern dance being most popular among older children. However, the response shows features of a borderline performance: while the main trends are identified, some supporting details could be more fully extended or compared more sharply, such as contrasting the under-11 age bracket with the 11-16 group in greater depth. Overall, the content is relevant and accurate according to the provided visual data, meeting the requirements for a solid mid-level score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory statement to an overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing the pie chart and bar chart respectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different visual elements. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly awkward transitions and punctuation around introductory phrases like "Whereas" and "While". Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher level of cohesion. To reach the next band, the student should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices without relying on repetitive structural patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic information about percentages, locations, and age groups. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "proportion" and "accounted for", but also makes notable word-choice and spelling errors that affect precision. For example, "calsses" is misspelled, "bullet" is used instead of "ballet", and phrases like "least known dance place" or "maximum amount of students" sound slightly unnatural in an academic context. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because control over less common lexical items remains inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as "Regarding the types of dance classes, ballet was most popular among the children under 11." However, there are some noticeable errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions throughout the text, including missing articles ("at private studios", "tap dance was attended around 440 students"), incorrect preposition usage, and punctuation errors such as sentence fragments starting with conjunctions like "While". Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication. To improve, the student needs to increase control over complex grammatical structures and eliminate basic slip-ups in articles and prepositions.
