Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview and reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the bar chart. You accurately identified the largest and smallest proportions for locations, such as private studios at 48% and college-based studios at 10%. Furthermore, you effectively highlighted the key trends for the different age groups, noting that ballet was most popular among the under-11s while modern dance led the 11-16 age group. The ideas are well extended and supported with accurate data from the visual text. To reach the highest bands, you could ensure that every minor detail or comparison is even more thoroughly integrated into a cohesive analytical narrative, avoiding any slight tendency to list data points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You made effective use of overall opening summaries and transitional phrases such as 'Looking first at the locations' and 'Turning to the types' to guide the reader smoothly between the two charts. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overall summary, and detailed body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are generally managed well, though the progression within the final sentences feels slightly mechanical due to repetitive listing structures like 'while tap at 420 members'. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, ensure that referencing and transitions between complex clauses flow more naturally without relying on repetitive connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying numerical data and comparative trends using terms like 'proportion', 'constituted', 'popular', and 'figure'. You attempted some less common vocabulary, such as 'moderate' and 'community halls', but there are noticeable spelling slips and word-choice errors, such as writing 'ballest wasthe' instead of 'ballet was the'. These occasional inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they restrict your lexical score. To move up to a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of flexible, less common lexical items with precise word formation and zero spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You utilized a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good control over relative clauses and comparative structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing verbs in compound clauses ('while tap at 420 members') and awkward prepositional phrases ('for the 11-16 aged people'), but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your meaning. The majority of your sentences remain functional and clear. To reach a higher band, you should aim for a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and ensure rigorous precision in prepositions and clause coordination.
