Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the charts and reporting the main features with accurate data points. The pie chart and bar chart are both covered, with correct references to the proportions and student numbers, such as 48% for private studios and 600 students for ballet under 11. However, some aspects are developed more fully than others; for instance, the comparison between age groups could have been extended further to reach a higher band. Overall, the information is relevant and clearly drawn from the visual data, satisfying the requirements for this level while showing some features of more fully developed responses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that separate the two charts. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'Furthermore', and 'In contrast'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the pie chart details from the bar chart statistics, and logical progression is maintained throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the information easily.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the statistical information about dance classes and student numbers. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'proportion', 'illustrates', and 'respectively'. However, there are notable lexical errors and spelling mistakes, including 'childerns' instead of children, 'community has' instead of halls, and 'respectivelly'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a limited control of word forms and spelling that keeps the score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures. There are several grammatical errors present, such as 'dance classes is popular' (subject-verb agreement), 'private studios with 48%' (prepositional choice), and missing articles or incorrect plurals like 'childerns' and 'dance learner'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear. The mix of structures shows an attempt at complexity, but control over accuracy needs improvement to reach the next band.
