Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the bar graph. You provide a clear overview and make relevant comparisons between the age groups and dance types, such as contrasting the popularity of ballet for under-11s versus those aged 11 to 16. However, there is a minor misinterpretation regarding the pie chart data in the second paragraph where you mention a downward trend in consecutive dance types, which slightly hinders the clarity of your overall summary. To reach a higher level, ensure that all overview statements strictly reflect the graphic data without introducing confusing trends that do not align with the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout the text. The essay is appropriately divided into introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs focusing separately on location and dance forms. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In terms of', 'whereas', and 'by contrast', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical. The half-band achievement reflects a strong command of paragraphing and clear logical organisation, but the slightly repetitive transition structures and minor mechanical cohesion prevent it from reaching a fully flexible higher tier. Integrating more sophisticated and varied cohesive links would further enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proportion', 'compromise', and 'enrolling'. However, there are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'location of classes getting attended' instead of 'attended', and 'studious' instead of 'studios'. Spelling and word-formation inaccuracies, like 'keens' instead of 'teens' or 'children', occur occasionally but do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on precision in word choice, avoiding awkward phrasing, and ensuring that less common vocabulary items are used with accurate collocations and correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures. However, frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization (such as starting sentences with lowercase letters like 'while,' and 'Overall ,'), and articles are present throughout the text. There are also issues with verb forms and prepositional patterns, such as 'schools halls which is the second most chosen place' lacking proper article use and compounding. These persistent errors, characteristic of this band level, require the reader to occasionally pause, even though communication is rarely impeded. To improve your grammar score, pay closer attention to punctuation rules, capitalization, and accurate subject-verb agreement.
