Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the location of dance classes and the types of dance by age group. An overview is present, and key features such as the dominance of private studios and the popularity of ballet for under-11s versus modern dance for 11–16-year-olds are highlighted. However, some areas are under-developed or lack full comparison between the categories. For instance, while figures are given for individual classes, the inter-relationships and overall synthesis could be extended further to reach a higher level. The response covers the task adequately while leaving certain details slightly mechanically listed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from pie chart data to bar/line graph data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different visual elements. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical, such as the punctuation and phrasing around introductory transitions like 'Over all, Most' and 'Regarding, the students under 11'. Referencing is generally clear, but the links between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, preventing a smoother flow of information across the entire report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate main trends using terms like 'popular', 'location', and 'pattern'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate, such as 'college based studios' (instead of college-based studios) and minor awkwardness in expressing data. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a restricted flexibility that keeps the lexical score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'while the age group from 11 to 16 liked to attend'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including capitalization issues ('Over all, Most'), missing hyphens in compound adjectives ('college based'), and occasional awkward phrasing. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple structures remain clear and accurate.
