Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting information on both the location of dance classes and the types of classes attended by age group. An overview is attempted, stating that private studios are the most popular location and noting general trends across age groups. However, some aspects are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the claim that there is a 'significant increment in age group under 11 for taking different type of dance classes' misinterprets the data, as the chart shows student numbers for specific categories rather than a temporal increase. Furthermore, the description of the bar chart contains confusing phrasing, such as stating that 'students dramatically decreased with estimated 100 numbers in two other classes' when referring to the under-11 or 11-16 breakdown. To reach a higher level, the response needs to provide a more accurate and fully supported overview without misinterpreting static data as trends over time.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on location and types of dance classes respectively. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transition markers like 'On the other way' are non-standard and inappropriate for academic writing. Referencing and logical progression between sentences occasionally falter, such as in the final paragraph where the contrast between age groups and class types is muddled ('Childrens show excess interest... In contrast, Young peeps are more interested...'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires smoother transitions and more precise linking devices to guide the reader effortlessly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'dance classes site' instead of 'location of dance classes', 'colege based studios' with a spelling error, and informal or unnatural phrasing such as 'Young peeps'. There are also lexical inaccuracies when describing statistical data, such as using 'increment' and 'trend declined' where nouns or adjectives of degree would be more precise. While communication is not severely impeded, these vocabulary limitations and occasional spelling errors prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Childrens show excess interest in various types of dance classes, which is increased by 300 to 600.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts illustrates'), missing articles ('in city of Australia', 'least attracted location is college'), and incorrect pluralisation ('Childrens'). Punctuation and preposition use also show recurring inaccuracies. These errors require some effort to decode, though they rarely completely impede communication. Greater control over basic grammatical structures and more error-free complex sentences are required to progress.
