Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both charts, covering both the location of dance classes and the types by age group. However, some aspects are more fully developed than others, which keeps the response at this level. For instance, while the pie chart data regarding private studios at 48% and school halls at 24% is clearly presented, the summary of the second chart lacks precision. You note that older and younger students in tap were 'similar around 400', which is accurate, but your overview contains vague generalisations such as 'almost all the age group showed similar numbers', which does not capture the clear differences seen in ballet and modern dance. To move to a higher band, ensure that all main trends and notable comparisons are fully elaborated and supported with accurate data points across all charts without vague summaries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement and successfully divides the information into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for each chart. The progression is generally clear, moving smoothly from locations to types of dance. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. You rely on repetitive transition phrases like 'To start with', 'Moving on', and 'Further' to link your ideas. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'in ballet showed avobe 600 students', where the subject is missing. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices naturally and ensure that every sentence has a clear logical link to the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey basic information about percentages and numbers. However, the range is limited and there are notable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms that prevent a higher score. For example, you wrote 'comman' instead of 'common', 'paractice' instead of 'practice', and 'avobe' instead of 'above'. Additionally, phrasing such as 'college based studios showed in the least uncommon location' contains awkward lexical choices and double negatives ('least uncommon') that obscure your meaning. To reach higher bands, you should demonstrate a more precise control of less common vocabulary, improve your spelling accuracy, and ensure your collocations are natural and appropriate for academic writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like subordinate clauses ('students who were older that 11'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence construction, agreement, and prepositions. For example, you wrote 'The given charts illustration' instead of 'illustrate', and 'School halls use for dance paractice' missing a passive auxiliary verb. Other errors include 'in ballet showed avobe 600 students', which lacks a proper subject, and 'only students 300 under the age 11'. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret. To improve, you need to exercise greater control over verb forms, sentence completeness, and grammatical accuracy while reducing the frequency of basic structural errors.
