Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a rudimentary overview of the charts while exhibiting a restricted approach to the data. Although the main features are touched upon, such as the highest proportion of private studios at 48% and the various dance types for different age groups, the information is presented in a mechanical, repetitive manner. Certain comparisons are either missing or under-developed, and the overview lacks clarity regarding the broader trends. To move to a higher band, the response would need to integrate the data more fluently, highlight the most significant trends across both charts more effectively, and present a well-developed summary that avoids excessive listing of individual percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is some organisation, but the overall progression lacks clarity. The response is divided into paragraphs, yet the sequencing of ideas feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be repetitive and mechanical, such as the frequent use of "Furthermore" and "Then" to introduce new data points. Reference words are sometimes ambiguous, making the flow of information occasionally difficult to follow. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer should employ a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one with smoother transitions, rather than relying on a simplistic chronological listing of chart details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as "claases", "atending", "bhelp", and "pecentages". The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the visual data, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate phrasing and awkward collocations like "upfront the lowest proportion". These noticeable errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary for describing statistical trends and ensure accurate spelling and word formation, using precise terminology without relying on simplistic repetitions of words from the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures. The sentences are predominantly simple or faulty attempts at complex forms, accompanied by frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as "The following two graphs i.e pie chart and bar graph is illustrating" and "the no of students under 11 is of moderate proprtion". These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy, while tightening control over basic grammar rules, tense consistency, and punctuation.
