Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the bar chart, such as the popularity of private studios and the age distribution across dance styles. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack precision. For instance, the mention that students under 11 are highest in ballet classes 'are more than 600' is slightly inaccurate based on the data, and details regarding tap and modern dances are partially vague. An overview is present at the end, capturing the main trends, which satisfies the requirements for this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty. Transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, but referencing and logical progression are occasionally disrupted by awkward transitions, such as 'To begin with, the sites of the dance classes the strength of the students in the school halls...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the flow between sentences can be disjointed, affecting readability.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying general concepts such as 'private studios', 'ballet classes', and 'age group'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'proportion' or descriptive terms, but encounters some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'collage based studios' instead of 'college-based', and repetitive phrasing like 'dance classes'. There are also minor spelling and word-choice slips that do not impede overall communication, placing the response firmly in this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms attempted throughout the response. However, frequent grammatical errors are present, including articles ('The mostly students'), subject-verb agreement issues ('the numbers in the collage based studios are'), and prepositions ('lesser in ballet classes from both modern'). Punctuation and sentence structures occasionally falter, such as run-on constructions ('And the figuers are almost in the middle... in tn the tap dance. In contrast...'). These errors are noticeable but rarely completely impede communication.
