Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both the location of dance classes and the types of classes broken down by age group. Key features and comparisons are clearly highlighted, such as the dominance of private studios at 48% and the contrasting preferences between younger and older children in ballet and modern dance. However, while the main trends are covered, some aspects are slightly under-developed or lack full extension, placing the response solidly at the mid-level. The overview adequately captures the most striking general trends, though the mechanics of selection could be slightly sharper to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically by chart type. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, the general overview, the pie chart data, and the bar chart data. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, with awkward transitional phrases such as 'Regarding to the pie chart' and some run-on or awkwardly linked sentences, as seen in the second paragraph where multiple clauses are strung together with commas. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally stumbles due to these cohesive shortcomings.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the trends in the charts with terms like 'comprised for', 'proportion', and 'participated'. The writer makes some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally marred by lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'shared the least amount' instead of 'accounted for the smallest proportion', and spelling or word-form slips like 'attedance'. Word choice is sometimes imprecise, but it never completely impedes communication, satisfying the criteria for an adequate but limited lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that the writer can handle various structures. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('majority of classes where conducted', 'Children less than 11 has'), incorrect prepositions ('attended in'), and comma splices, particularly in the overview paragraph. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication, reflecting a control level characterised by a mix of correct structures and persistent minor errors.
