Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, as there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data from the visual sources. Specifically, in the paragraph detailing the bar chart, the student misinterprets the data entirely, claiming that '600 students joined the dance type ballet are in the age group of 11 to 16 year which is significantly higher that the students under 11 years which is 300' when the chart clearly shows the opposite (600 under 11 and 300 for 11–16). Similarly, the details regarding modern dance are confused ('almost 525 pupils who learn modern dance are under 11 years' instead of 11–16). While an overview is attempted, the limited and inaccurate data reporting prevents the response from achieving a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation with the use of introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sequencing markers like 'At first', 'Besides', and 'First of all'. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as referencing 'dance pupil' and switching abruptly between the pie and bar chart details. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within the body paragraphs lacks smooth transitions, leading to a somewhat disjointed reading experience.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the charts. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'dance classes types', 'pupil', and 'dance type ballet', which reflect a restricted range. While common vocabulary is generally handled, attempts at less common phrasing lead to noticeable inaccuracies that cause some difficulty and strain for the reader, keeping the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('School halls after school holds', 'percentages ... is 48%'), incorrect prepositions ('based of the age group'), and missing or incorrect articles. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over grammatical forms.
