Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the bar chart. You provide a clear overall trend and successfully present key data points, such as the 48% share for private studios and the student numbers for ballet and modern dance across the two age groups. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or state some figures with minor inaccuracies, and certain comparisons could be more fully extended to reach the next level. For instance, your observation regarding tap dancing being similar between the groups could be better quantified using the precise data from the visual.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the charts. Information and ideas flow reasonably well, and you utilise cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Meanwhile', and 'In comparison'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'making the highest number' or 'go with'. Paragraphing is used, but transitions between sentences within the body paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a fully natural and progressive structure throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'largest share', 'college-based studios', and 'proportion'. There are, however, some noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'opt for private studio' (missing plural), 'least number of people selected' (should be 'the least number'), and 'ballet dance classes is most famous' (inappropriate adjective 'famous' for an activity). Spelling and word formation are generally clear, but greater precision in lexical selection is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative and dependent clauses with relative pronouns. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'held in a town of Australia' (should be 'in a town in Australia'), 'under 11 age' (should be 'under 11 years of age'), 'piechart is occupied by four locations' (awkward passive structure), and 'found with in college-based studios' (spacing and preposition error). These errors persist throughout the text and restrict the score for this criterion.
