Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover both charts, providing an overview and mentioning some key features such as private studios being the most popular location and ballet being favored by the under-11 group. However, the information is incomplete, and the report cuts off abruptly in the third paragraph, leaving out key data regarding the 11-16 age group's preferences for tap and modern dance. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 129 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher band, the student must ensure all main features of the visual data are fully reported and expand the response to meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response shows some organization, with an introductory sentence, a brief overview, and a division of ideas into paragraphs covering locations and age groups. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as the abrupt transition 'while college-based studios is less prefered location about 10% only.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the final body paragraph consists of only a single incomplete sentence. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of cohesive markers and ensure logical connections between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary, featuring relevant terms such as 'location', 'private studios', and 'dance classes'. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'illustrates' used with a plural subject ('charts illustrates'), 'prefered' (preferred), 'ballete' (ballet), 'recoded' (recorded), and 'maximun' (maximum). These errors occasionally cause slight confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items accurately and check for spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('charts illustrates', 'type of dance classes which attended'), missing articles ('is highest selection', 'is less prefered location'), and incorrect preposition use or incomplete clauses ('whose prefered ballet dance'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, leading to fragments. To progress, the student should practice forming complex sentences correctly and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules such as articles and verb forms.
