Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 99 words and leaving the second chart regarding dance classes by age group incomplete. While the writer attempts to summarise the main features of the charts by mentioning private studios and college-based studios, the information is only partially addressed due to the premature ending. The overview touches upon general trends, such as the highest and lowest percentages for locations, but the lack of completion prevents a fully developed response to all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some basic organisation, opening with an introduction and attempting an overall statement, followed by body paragraphs. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression because the text cuts off mid-sentence. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on coordinating conjunctions like 'and' to link clauses. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final incomplete thought disrupts the structural flow and overall cohesion of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are several noticeable lexical errors, such as misspellings ('diffierent', 'loctaions', 'preffered', 'cooege-based') and awkward word choices ('half century' instead of a fraction, 'choosed' instead of chose). These errors stem from basic vocabulary limitations and spelling inaccuracies, which reflect a restricted range that only partially serves the communication needs of the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are issues with prepositions and articles, such as 'information of an Australian young people attending' and 'going to college-based studios'. Subject-verb agreement and word forms also show frequent errors, such as 'least number of students preffered to go' and 'below 11 age group students are attending classes more'. These errors persist throughout the short text and restrict the grammatical range.
