Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting data from both the pie chart and the bar chart, providing an overview of the main trends. However, some parts are addressed more fully than others, and certain details are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the student states that "nearly half century students" are going to private studios, which is a confusing expression, and provides slightly inaccurate data in the final paragraph regarding the tap and modern dance figures for older children. While key features such as the popularity of private studios and ballet are highlighted, the overall summary lacks complete precision and fails to fully develop comparisons between the two charts, keeping this aspect of the response at a partial level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The writing has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, overview, location data, and dance type data. However, cohesion is at times mechanical and repetitive, heavily relying on basic conjunctions and connectors such as "and", "and moreover", and "Additionally". Referencing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as starting multiple sentences with coordinating conjunctions. Paragraphing is present and separates the two distinct visual sets of information appropriately, which satisfies the requirements for this band level, though more sophisticated cohesive devices and smoother transitions are needed to progress further.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Spelling mistakes such as "diffierent", "loctaions", "preffered", "learing", and "cooege-based" appear throughout the text. Furthermore, awkward lexical choices like "majority number of students" and "half century students" impede natural expression and cause some difficulty for the reader. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as "college-based studios" and "community halls", but persistent inaccuracies in word form and choice prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that often contain errors. There are frequent mistakes with verb forms and tenses, such as "students are attending classes more rather then 11 to 16 age group" and "modern dance learning by 300 students", which features a passive voice error. Preposition and article errors are also noticeable, for example "go college-based studios" instead of "go to college-based studios". These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty for the reader, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning completely.
