Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to cover both the pie chart regarding the location of dance classes and the bar chart illustrating the types of dance classes by age group, the information provided is very general and contains inaccurate reporting. For instance, the statement that 'maximum number of teenagers participated in Ballet dance classes and and less Youngsters liked these classes' contradicts the visual data for the older age group where Modern dance is higher, and the phrasing is confusing. Furthermore, the overview lacks a clear synthesis of the main trends across both charts, presenting instead a series of disjointed observations. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to select and report key features accurately, avoiding contradictions, and ensure that all main comparisons between the categories are clearly and correctly highlighted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation in the response, with an introduction, an overview sentence, and body paragraphs attempting to separate the data types. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the linking devices used are somewhat repetitive and mechanical, such as 'Overall', 'Firstly', and 'In addition to'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, often jumping between different points without smooth transitions. For instance, the final paragraph mixes observations about ballet, modern, and tap dance classes without a logical flow. To improve, the writer should focus on creating a clear logical thread connecting the introduction, overview, and detailed body paragraphs, while using a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on basic terminology and makes several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'Collage' instead of 'College' and using repetitive phrases like 'dance classes' and 'participated'. While there are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in collocation and word form—such as 'teenagers who participating' and 'on different locations'—cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range by incorporating precise, task-specific vocabulary and synonyms (e.g., proportion, sector, age bracket) while ensuring correct word formation and spelling throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic complex forms that frequently contain errors. There are noticeable grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('teenagers who participating', 'classes which is classified'), preposition errors ('on different locations'), and article omissions. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures with improved accuracy, paying closer attention to verb tenses, relative clauses, and prepositions within grammatical patterns to ensure that sentences are largely error-free.
