Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, standing at 149 words (with 11 words copied from the prompt excluded). Furthermore, the content suffers from serious misinterpretations of the visual data. The student misreads the charts entirely, claiming incorrectly that age groups and dance types relate to location changes over time (e.g., stating that youngsters in ballet 'had to make use of the community hall... when their number fell to 300'). The summary does not accurately report the main features or make valid comparisons from the mixed charts provided, presenting confused and largely inaccurate information.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay displays some basic organization with an introductory sentence and paragraph divisions, but information and ideas are not arranged coherently due to confused data interpretation. Progression is difficult to follow because referencing is unclear and links between sentences are faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'consequently' are misused to connect unrelated data points. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow breaks down significantly as the writer attempts to synthesize the pie chart and bar chart without a clear structuring strategy.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for communicating basic concepts, but contains noticeable errors and awkward phrasing that impede understanding. Words are occasionally misused or confused, such as writing 'chidren' (spelling error) or attempting less common vocabulary like 'youngsters' and 'category' repetitively. Collocations are frequently weak, and terms from the prompt are recycled without variation. While the vocabulary allows the writer to attempt a discussion of the charts, the imprecise word choice and spelling slips reflect a restricted range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on clumsy complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb tenses, agreements, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'when their numbers was at 450' and 'the two category decreased overtime'. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences joined inappropriately by commas rather than full stops or correct conjunctions. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader in parsing the intended meaning.
