Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of both charts and reporting the main features, such as the dominance of private studios (48%) and the varying popularity of dance types across age groups. Key data points are accurately cited from the visual input, including specific student numbers for ballet, tap, and modern dance. The response establishes a clear overall progression. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or state individual data points without fully extending the comparisons between the two age groups in every instance. Overall, the content fully meets the requirements for this level, covering all required features with relevant and accurate data extraction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and logical structure, beginning with a clear introductory paragraph followed by an overview and body paragraphs dedicated to location and types of dance classes respectively. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or somewhat repetitive, relying on simple transitional phrases like "On the other hand" and "In contrast." Paragraphing is used to separate distinct visual elements, but referencing and logical flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher level of integration. Overall, the organization is clear and manageable for the reader, fitting the requirements of this band well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying information about percentages, locations, and student numbers. The student attempts some less common lexical items, such as "segment," "contributed," and "significant," though there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as "contibuted" instead of contributed and "Colloge-based" instead of college-based. Phrasing can occasionally be repetitive, as seen with the repeated use of "made up a largest segment" and "contributed to the dance classes." These errors and limitations place the lexical range at this level, though communication is generally maintained.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as the use of subordinate clauses comparing the two charts in the introduction. However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement and singular/plural forms, such as "ballet dance are popular" instead of dances are popular, and "300 students has enrolled" instead of have enrolled. Punctuation and spacing issues also appear, such as extra spaces around parentheses in "school halls ( after-school)". These frequent minor errors and the limited range of controlled complex structures reflect the characteristics of this grammar band.
