Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by covering both the location of dance classes and the types of dance classes by age group, and includes an overview. However, some aspects are under-developed or inadequately supported with data. For example, the overview states that community halls are 'at middle', which is vague, and the second sentence about age groups misses specific mention of tap dance. In the body paragraphs, while percentages are provided for locations, the writing trails off at the very end of the response, leaving the final data point incomplete. The main features are selected, but the development lacks consistency across all areas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing location and types of dance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitions like 'Looking at the details' and 'On terms oft ypes of dances' are basic, and referencing or linking between sentences lacks smooth progression. Furthermore, the abrupt cut-off at the end of the text disrupts the logical flow and completeness of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the general meaning of the charts with terms like 'popular', 'location', and 'participate'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'gradually decreases', but this is accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'coummunity' for community, 'expereniced' for experienced, and 'On terms oft ypes' instead of 'In terms of types'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over less common lexical items and spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The diagrams illustrates information about...' and 'Whereas, from age 11-16 almost 520 individuals participate...'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present, including subject-verb agreement ('The diagrams illustrates' instead of 'diagram illustrates') and missing articles or prepositions ('at middle' instead of 'in the middle', 'both age group' instead of 'both age groups'). However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede overall communication.
