Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially and attempts to cover both the pie chart and the bar chart, though the length requirement is not met as the text falls four words short of the 150-word minimum once copied prompt words are excluded. Key features are reported, such as the highest and lowest locations and the preferences across age groups for different dance classes. However, some data points are slightly inaccurate, such as reporting tap dance for 11 to 16 year olds as 410 instead of approximately 420. The overview is present but lacks full development, which keeps the response at this band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a clear attempt to structure the response into paragraphs, separating the pie chart data from the bar graph data. However, the overall progression is somewhat mechanical and disjointed. Cohesive devices are used repeatedly and sometimes inaccurately, such as starting multiple sentences with transitions like 'In contrast' and 'Turning to the bar graph' without smooth integration. Referencing and logical flow between sentences need more care to achieve a higher band, as the current arrangement feels a bit disjointed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'category'. However, there are notable limitations and word choice inaccuracies, such as 'Private studios was famous location' (incorrect singular/plural agreement and inappropriate adjective) and awkward phrasing like 'young ages(11-16)'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is inconsistent, leading to occasional awkwardness that prevents the writing from reaching a higher descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, mostly simple or straightforward complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('represented lowest share', 'at ballet'), incorrect subject-verb agreement ('Private studios was'), and poor punctuation spacing around commas and brackets. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited command of grammatical structures and punctuation.
