Student answer (Band 6.5)
The given diagrams give us information about the type of dance classes, and the location of these classes.
The pie chart shows us that private studios have the largest share of dance classes, which is about 48%. Following it, we have school halls as the second most popular location of dance classes with 24%. Moreover, community halls share 18% while college based studios share the smallest percentage of only 10%.
The second diagram gives us information about 3 types of dance classes. These are Ballet, Tap and Modern. Additionally it also provides the data of different age groups attending these different types of dance classes. Ballet dance is most popular with kids under the age of 11. It has about 600 under 11 kids, while only 300 kids aged from 11 to 16 are practicing this type of dance. Tap dance has a balanced following by both age groups. It has about 450 under 11 and 410 11 to 16 aged kids practicing it. The dynamic inverses in the Modern dance, as most of the kids practicing it are aged between 11 and 16. Modern dance has about 520 11 to 16 aged kids practicing it, while only 300 children under 11 practice it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by addressing both the pie chart regarding locations and the bar chart regarding dance types and age groups. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you have accurately reported several key figures, such as the 48% share for private studios and the 600 children under 11 taking ballet, some comparisons lack full extension. For instance, the discussion of tap dance merely lists the figures without providing a deeper analytical comparison of how the two age groups relate across all three dance styles. To reach the next level, you need to ensure that every main feature is fully supported by precise comparisons and a clearer overarching overview that highlights the most striking trends across both charts together.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. You have successfully separated the response into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introductory sentence, moving to the pie chart data, and concluding with the bar chart details. Cohesive devices such as 'Following it', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' are used to guide the reader through the information, although referencing is sometimes slightly mechanical. To progress further, you could use a wider variety of more sophisticated cohesive phrasing and ensure that transitions between sentences flow more naturally without relying heavily on sequential transition words at the start of every sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the statistical information using terms like 'share', 'popular', and 'following'. You also attempt less common vocabulary such as 'dynamic inverses', although this particular phrase sounds slightly unnatural in this context. There are minor word choice and collocation inaccuracies that do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate a more flexible and precise range of academic vocabulary and less common lexical items, such as 'proportion', 'predominate', or 'evenly distributed', while maintaining natural control over word choice and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and participial phrases effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'college based studios' lacking a hyphen and occasional slight awkwardness in preposition use or noun phrase formulation, but these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are clear. To reach the next band, you should aim to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate finer control over punctuation and grammatical agreements throughout the entire text.
