Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and struggles with interpreting the visual data accurately, mistaking young people and children for adults in places, as seen in the opening sentence referring to "adult individual". While some key features such as the 48% figure for private studios are reported, the overview is confused and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. Information about the age groups and dance types is sometimes inaccurately stated, such as misreading data or failing to make comprehensive comparisons between the categories. To move to a higher level, the response needs to provide a clearer, more accurate overview of all the main features shown in the charts, ensuring that data is reported precisely without misinterpretation and that all parts of the visual information are adequately covered.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with paragraphs attempting to separate the two charts, but there is no clear overall progression from the beginning to the end of the response. Cohesive devices are repetitive, mechanical, or inaccurate, with excessive reliance on transitional phrases like "it is clear that" and "it is evident that" to introduce almost every sentence. Paragraphing is also somewhat haphazard, and referencing between ideas lacks smoothness. To achieve a higher score, the writing needs to demonstrate a more logical and natural flow of information, using a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately and avoiding repetitive sentence starters that make the structure feel formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include "parcentage" instead of percentage, "bullet" instead of ballet, and awkward phrasing such as "early age child". The range of vocabulary is narrow, and attempts to use less common terms result in incorrect collocations or misspellings. To improve in this area, the student should expand their range of vocabulary related to data reporting, ensure correct spelling of key terms presented in the prompt, and practise appropriate word forms to express statistical trends more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic copular patterns. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to noticeable errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as in "the both graph are three location and classes" and "location based by the college based studios". Frequent errors are present throughout the text, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with good control, reducing the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes and ensuring accurate tense usage and prepositional patterns.
