Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both the pie chart and the bar chart, providing a clear overview at the beginning and selecting key data points to compare. You successfully highlight that private studios were the most popular location and point out the leading dance types for different age groups. However, some parts of the task are developed more fully than others; for instance, the breakdown of percentages for locations is somewhat mechanical without deeper synthesis, and certain figures like the tap dance numbers require closer reading. To reach a higher level, you could ensure all key features are extended with more detailed comparisons and a fully developed overview that integrates both visual components more fluidly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, beginning with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to the location data and the dance types respectively. You use basic cohesive devices and transition signals such as 'Meanwhile', 'Overall', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader through the information. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, and referencing between sentences could be smoother. For example, sentences like 'Whereas, the number of individuals of age group under 11 interested in ballet were highest' disrupt the logical flow. To improve, work on varying your cohesive devices naturally and ensuring that each paragraph transitions seamlessly into the next without abrupt shifts in focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common terminology such as 'proportion', 'comprised', and 'attained a ratio'. You are able to communicate your points clearly about the charts. However, there are some word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'most favorite' instead of 'most popular', and missing articles or preposition slips like 'on the location' or 'of age group'. Your spelling is generally accurate. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of sophisticated vocabulary with greater precision and natural collocation, avoiding awkward phrasing when describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using relative clauses and comparative structures to report the data. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of minor errors include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'the number of individuals... were highest', and missing articles like 'School halls was the second highest 24%'. Punctuation around introductory elements also needs tighter control. To reach the next level, you should aim to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict consistency with singular and plural verb agreements when discussing statistical proportions and quantities.
