Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given angular chart illustrates the areas for dance classes in Australia. The horizontal bar graph delineates categories for dancing by different age group. Data is measured in numbers and percentage.
From an overall perspective, majority of classes were private based whereas, least were from college categories.
After analysing the details, it can be observed that the ratio of venue where dance classes were conducted was almost similar in community halls and school halls. As college based studios hold only 10% of the population which was 38% less than private studios which showed a great contrast. On the other side the number of community halls was carrying medium ratio of dancers.
Looking forward to the remaining information, it can be scrutinised that, mmajority of children under age of 11 preferd ballet which was holding 700 students whereas, the ratio of modern dance was almost same as it was showing only 200 numbers less than ballet in age of 11-16. nearbout 400 children prefered to choose tap.
All in all, no specific trend could de discerned in the given bar graph.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers both parts of the task by reporting the main features of the charts, but the treatment is somewhat limited. While an overview is attempted, it contains inaccuracies, such as stating that 'no specific trend could be discerned,' which overlooks clear data patterns like the dominance of private studios or the shift in preferences across age groups. Some figures are misreported or imprecise, for instance claiming that ballet for under 11s held 700 students when the chart indicates around 600, or stating that modern dance was 200 numbers less than ballet in the 11-16 bracket. Ideas are presented, but data selection and reporting lack precision, leading to a partial and underdeveloped response overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence, giving the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, progression is sometimes obscured by mechanical or repetitive transitions such as 'From an overall perspective,' 'After analysing the details,' and 'Looking forward to the remaining information.' Paragraphing is used, but internal cohesion is hindered by awkward referencing and phrasing. For example, connecting clauses using 'whereas' or 'which was' leads to run-on structures and unclear relationships between ideas. To move to a higher band, the transitions should be more natural and the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs must be sharpened.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe general trends and percentages. However, there is a limited range of vocabulary, and noticeable errors in word choice and spelling occur throughout the response, such as 'angular chart' instead of circular or pie chart, 'private based,' 'preferd,' and 'nearbout.' Attempts to use less common vocabulary often result in unnatural collocations, such as 'carrying medium ratio of dancers' or 'ratio of venue.' While communication is not entirely blocked, these lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that frequently contain errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes, including missing articles ('majority of classes,' 'community halls was carrying'), incorrect prepositions ('in age of 11-16'), and awkward verb tense or voice usage ('data is measured,' 'dance classes were conducted'). Punctuation errors also appear, such as missing spaces after full stops. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a lack of control over more complex grammatical patterns.
