Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the table, covering locations and types of dance classes. However, some ideas are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the statement '48% of area is covered by the private studios' misinterprets the chart's data regarding the proportion of classes held in private studios. An overview is present, but it highlights details rather than the broader trends. To reach a higher level, the response should provide a clearer overview of the main highlights, such as identifying the dominant studio type and the most popular dance genre overall, while ensuring all data points are described with greater accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical division into paragraphs for the introduction, overview, pie chart details, and table details. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Words and phrases like 'Secondly', 'While', and 'Lastly' are used to link ideas, but referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'They also have nearly around 500 students who's age is from 11 to 16.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, but transitions between sentences and ideas lack seamless flow. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure clear referencing so that relationships between data points are immediately apparent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to charts and statistics, such as 'proportion', 'survey', and 'age groups'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'dance practiced' instead of 'dance styles' or 'genres', 'tapp classes', and 'pupils who aged'. Additionally, there are minor awkward phrasings like 'community halls& other and college based studios stays around'. These vocabulary and spelling errors do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To elevate your lexical score, focus on precise word choices, correct word forms, and natural collocations when describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and comparative statements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence structures, verb forms, and articles. Examples include 'The pie chart depicts gives reveals location', 'the numbers of students are compared with three different types', 'It has approximately 600 students, who are under 11', and 'who's age is from 11 to 16'. These errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and relative pronouns persist throughout the text, although they rarely impede overall communication. To move to a higher band, you need to produce more error-free sentences by carefully checking verb tenses, article usage, and punctuation before final submission.
