Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both the locations of dance classes and the types of classes across age groups. An overview is provided, highlighting the main features such as private studios being the most common location. Key comparisons are made, noting that ballet is most popular for under-11s while modern dance leads for the 11-16 age group. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed, and certain figures contain minor inaccuracies compared to the visual data, such as misinterpreting the proportion of school halls as 'one third' instead of around a quarter. It fully meets the criteria for a solid score and shows elements of higher task fulfillment by attempting a comprehensive overview and covering both charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for each chart. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty due to repetitive transitional phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'In addition'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun use when describing data points. While the logical progression is evident, these minor cohesion issues prevent the text from achieving a fully smooth flow throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'nonurban', 'proportion', and 'academy'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'pai' instead of 'pie', 'revels' for 'reveals', 'verity' for 'variety', 'attrending', 'privet' or 'privete' for 'private', 'coverd' for 'covered', 'littlebit', 'verios', 'wich', 'ballte', and 'intrest'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because control over word spelling and collocations remains limited and inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures such as relative clauses ('studios wich is cover 48%') and participial phrases. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('classes attend by', 'students are having'), incorrect article use ('a ballet type', 'the bar graph'), and awkward prepositional patterns ('noted in a ballet type'). Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to place the response at this level, showing some control of basic forms while struggling with grammatical accuracy in more complex constructions.
