Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response attempts to address the visual data by mentioning the location of dance classes and specific age groups, but it fails to present a fully accurate overview. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 131 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. The report presents some limited data, such as private studios accounting for 48 percent and mention of ballet classes, but the information is frequently confused or misreported. For instance, the distinction between age groups and data points is blurred, and key features like the overall distribution across different types of dance classes for both age groups are inadequately covered. To move up, the writer needs to ensure the full minimum word count is reached, select more representative main features from all parts of the charts, and report the data with greater factual accuracy.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response shows an attempt to organise information with basic linking words and a concluding sentence, such as 'In conclusion 11 years old boys are more attractive to joining classes'. However, the overall logical progression is weak and disjointed. Paragraphing is minimal and not used effectively to separate distinct parts of the visual data, resulting in a single dense block of text with a short concluding line. Referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader confused about which data set or age group is being discussed. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and inaccurately. To improve, the writer must structure the essay into clear paragraphs—such as an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for locations and dance types—while ensuring logical transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'illustrat' instead of illustrate, 'persent' instead of percent, 'shool' instead of school, 'cummunity' instead of community, 'bace' instead of based, 'attendeing' instead of attending, 'Bullet' instead of Ballet, and 'widly difference' instead of wide difference. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'attractive' or 'difference', but these are used inappropriately in context. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical range beyond elementary terms, use correct word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures that are frequently marred by basic errors. There are persistent problems with verb forms and tenses, such as 'Most of dance classes is held' instead of are held, and missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect participle forms like 'boys by attending' and 'that attendeing'. Article usage, prepositions, and pluralisation also show frequent errors throughout the text, as seen in 'in studio about 48persent' and 'as commpare to younger one'. While some simple sentences are understandable, errors occur in almost every sentence and occasionally impede communication. To progress, the writer must demonstrate control over a wider variety of complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy.
