Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by covering both the pie chart detailing locations and the bar graph showing dance types by age group. A clear overview is provided at the end, highlighting the main trends such as the dominance of private studios and the contrasting preferences between the two age groups. Key features and comparisons are reported accurately, such as noting that private studios account for 48% and contrasting the 11-16 age group's preference for modern dance with the under-11 group's preference for ballet. While the ideas are well-supported and extended, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or lean on isolated data points without deeper synthesis, placing it solidly within the seventh band rather than higher.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is grouped reasonably into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs dealing with each chart respectively, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'However' and 'It is followed by', though there are minor mechanical transitions and occasional referencing issues, such as 'This number of this age group'. Paragraphing is sufficient, but transitional phrases can sometimes feel slightly formulaic. This meets the criteria for the band below while beginning to show the clear overall progression typical of higher levels.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer attempts less common vocabulary with some awareness of style and collocation, using terms like 'proportion', 'dominance', and 'trend'. However, there are notable word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'horizonal', 'nuber', 'propotion', 'holded', 'joins', 'intereted', and 'atttend'. While the vocabulary is adequate to communicate the main points and some spelling errors do not completely impede understanding, the frequency of lexical slips and inaccuracies prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and comparative structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence structure, article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'four different location', 'Number of students who attend... is 48%', 'Ratio of people is 18% who joins', and 'College based studio has least number of people that is 10% , who atttend it.' These errors require some effort from the reader to parse, and the lack of a majority of error-free sentences keeps the grammar score at this level.
