Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie chart depicts information about location of the dances academic in a city of Australia; whereas, bar graph illustrates types of dance classes prefer by different age groups people.

Overall, the most striking feature of the chart is that, majority of young people choose private dance studios location among the four locations. On the other hand, Ballet dance form is the most favarable choice for 11-16 age group, while modern art form choice among under 11 age group.

To begin with, in Australia significant portion of young people's preferred location is private studios, which accounted nearly a half. School halls location secured second position, where 24% youth go to learn dance. Moreover, choice of community halls and college-based studios recorded 18% and 10% respectively.

Furthermore, the bar graph enumerates that highest number of students enrolled for Ballet dance art by 11-16 age group, which accounted 600 students. On the contrast, under 11 years of people opt for Modern dance art, which noted probebly 501. In addition, choice for Tap dance classes has not show major differences. Approximately between 401 to 450 number of students enroll themselves for this dance firm from both the age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the two charts and reports several location percentages accurately, including private studios at nearly half and the 24%, 18% and 10% shares. However, the overview and key comparisons contain major misreadings of the age-group data: ballet is highest among under-11s (about 600), not 11–16-year-olds, while modern is highest among 11–16-year-olds (about 520), not under-11s. The figures of 600 for older ballet students and about 501 for younger modern students are therefore inaccurate. The tap comparison is broadly reasonable, but the response omits the important contrast between the age groups’ leading styles. To improve, check each bar against its age-group label and build the overview around the actual highest and lowest figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview and separate paragraphs for the two chart components. Its progression is generally easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal the shift between topics. This coherent arrangement is a strength. However, some connections are mechanical or awkward, including “On the contrast,” and the overview’s comparison is difficult to follow because the age groups and dance styles are mismatched. The location details are grouped logically, but the bar-chart paragraph would be clearer if it compared each style directly across both age groups. Use accurate references such as “among under-11s” and “for the older group” to make relationships explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

There is an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “accounted,” “portion,” “enrolled” and “approximately,” and the response attempts to vary its wording rather than repeat “students” throughout. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts: “location of the dances academic,” “favarable,” “dance art,” and “dance firm.” Spelling errors such as “probebly” also reduce precision. Some phrases, including “secured second position,” sound overly formal without adding clarity. Choose standard chart language and use the names of the dance styles directly; this will make the report more precise and natural while retaining the range already attempted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced with “whereas” and an overview using “while.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. For example, “types of dance classes prefer by different age groups people” lacks a correctly formed passive and natural noun phrase; “which accounted nearly a half” is missing a preposition; and “choice for Tap dance classes has not show” has an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence also uses “whereas” after a semicolon in an awkward structure. Review passive forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly linked clause.
