Student answer (Band 6.5)
Both the pie chart and the bar graph illustrate the information about the dance classes of young people that are still continue in a town of Australia.
Overall, it can be clearly seen in the bar graph, the number of students in the ballet class exceed all the other dance classes with the age group of under eleven whereas the number of young people, who were between eleven to sixteen years, was minimum in this class. Moreover, the pie chart depicts the exact location where dance classes are going. Most of the sessions of the dance class are organising in the private studio while the college-based-studios is the location with the least number of class.
On the one hand, the pie chart demonstrates the location of the dance classes. The private studios contains the 48% of overall dance classes, the school halls, the community halls & other and the college-based-studios consume 24%, 18% and 10% of the classes respectively.
On the other hand, the horizontal bar chart depicts the number of students who are attending three types of dance classes: the ballet, the tap, the modern, with two different age groups: under 18 and 11 to 16. The ballet class has the 600 students of under eleven and 300 students of eleven to sixteen. Furthermore, the tap class consists of 450 students under 11 while 420 students which are between 11 to 16. The modern dance class consumes 520 students with maximum number of students who are between 11 to 16 among all young students. 300 students, who are under 11 of their age, attended the modern class.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both charts and give a clear overview of the main patterns: private studios account for the largest share of locations, college-based studios the smallest, and ballet participation is highest among under-11s while it is lowest among 11–16-year-olds. The figures you report for the location categories and dance types are broadly accurate, and you make relevant comparisons between age groups. To make the summary more precise, correct the age label “under 18” to “under 11” and avoid the unsupported claim that the ballet class “exceed[s] all the other dance classes” without specifying that this applies to the younger group. You could also highlight that modern is most popular among the older group, while tap numbers are similar across the two groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and bar chart. This makes the information easy to locate, and transitions such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” signal the shift between visuals. The overview also helps establish the main comparisons before the details. However, some linking is mechanical, and the overview repeats information that is then given again in the body. The long final paragraph lists figures in sequence rather than grouping the age comparisons by dance type. For stronger progression, organise the bar-chart details around the contrasts—for example, ballet’s decline with age and modern’s increase—and use clearer references to the age groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “depicts,” “consists of,” “attended,” and “respectively,” and the reader can understand the comparisons you intend to make. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the dance classes … are still continue,” “the exact location where dance classes are going,” and “the modern dance class consumes 520 students.” Repetition of “dance class” and “students” also limits flexibility. Choose precise chart language: classes are held at a location, and students attend or take a class. Using terms such as “accounted for,” “participation,” and “figure” more consistently would make the report sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “whereas” and “while,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “are still continue,” “the number … exceed,” “the private studios contains,” and “the college-based-studios is.” The sentence beginning “Overall, it can be clearly seen in the bar graph” also lacks a smooth grammatical connection to the following clause. Work on subject–verb agreement and consistent tense, and check article use and plural forms. Shorter, well-controlled sentences would help you retain the comparisons while improving accuracy.
