Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify both visuals and give a basic overall comparison, noting that private studios are the most common location and that ballet is most popular among under-11s while modern leads for 11–16-year-olds. However, the report is only a minimal response: it gives no figures and omits important comparisons, including the other location shares and the age-group differences for tap and ballet. The claim that school halls “stands second” is broadly supported, but the overview does not explain the main patterns in enough detail. The response is also 65 words below the required minimum, which leaves the task substantially under-reported. Add a concise overview and select key figures from both charts to support your comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening sentence introduces the charts, followed by a separate overview paragraph. This makes the general purpose easy to follow. However, there is no detailed reporting paragraph, so the information does not progress from an overview to supporting comparisons. Linking is also limited and sometimes awkward: “While” and “Whereas” introduce fragments rather than complete, smoothly connected ideas. Develop the response in a logical sequence—for example, describe the location shares in one paragraph and compare the dance styles across age groups in another. Use clear links such as “By contrast” or “In comparison” to show relationships between specific figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “location,” “private studios,” “school halls,” “ballet,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes parts of the overview difficult to understand. For example, “mostly potion is covered” does not clearly express that private studios account for the largest share, and “classess” contains a spelling error. “Mostly taking ballet” is also an unnatural way to describe participation. Aim for precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “the most popular style,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both a longer introductory sentence and an overview with contrasting ideas, showing some willingness to vary sentence structure. The opening is mostly understandable, but it is missing an article in “while bar chart illustrates,” and the parenthetical list has unnecessary spacing before the closing bracket. The overview contains more substantial sentence-structure problems: “While school halls … stands second” is not a complete independent sentence, and “Whereas, the number … is seen to be mostly taking” is also an awkward, incomplete construction. There are also agreement and article issues in “location … mostly potion” and “dance classess.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles and singular/plural agreement.
