Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both charts and give a clear overview: private studios are the largest location category, while ballet is most popular among under-11s and modern among 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are reported accurately, including the 48%, 24%, 18% and 10% location shares and the main ballet and modern comparisons. The tap figures, however, are misinterpreted: the chart shows about 450 under-11 students and 420 aged 11–16, not “just over 20 more” in the younger group; the difference is about 30. Also, saying private studios exceed the other locations is less precise than noting that the remaining locations together account for 52%. More exact comparisons and a little less generalisation would strengthen an otherwise well-focused summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate discussions of location and dance types. This gives the reader a logical route through both charts, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In terms of” and “On the other hand” help signal the stages of the report. The progression is not always smooth, however: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast between the charts that is not really being made, and the final paragraph combines several comparisons in a long, crowded sentence. Some references, such as “where” in “where ballet is most,” are unclear. Use more direct links between comparisons and divide dense sentences to make cohesion more natural and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to describe both charts, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age group” and “attending,” and the meaning is generally clear. There is some variety in how you introduce comparisons, but several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “mostly covered by,” “stand first,” “on the lowest side” and “the types of dance classes is consist of.” Repetition of “students attending” and “dance classes” also limits flexibility. Aim for standard chart-report collocations such as “accounted for,” “had the highest figure” and “the number of students taking each style.” More accurate, natural phrasing would make your comparisons sound more controlled without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “compared to” and clauses introduced by “where” and “while.” However, errors in sentence structure and agreement recur, and several sentences are not fully controlled. For example, “School halls … stands second” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the types of dance classes is consist of age groups” has an incorrect verb construction. In “ballet is most in children under 11 with 600 students are attending,” the clause structure is also faulty. Articles, punctuation and sentence boundaries need more consistent attention. Practise building comparisons with a clear subject and verb—for example, “Ballet attracted 600 under-11 students, twice the figure for the older group”—and check agreement before finalising each sentence.
