Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios are the leading location, college-based studios the least common, and dance preferences differ by age. Several comparisons are accurate, including ballet at about 600 versus 300 students and modern dance exceeding 500 among 11–16-year-olds. This meets the task well, with some features reported more fully than others. However, the overview’s claim that “more younger people prefer western dance form” is unclear and not supported by the chart, which shows modern dance leading for the older group. The discussion of community halls also incorrectly links that location to modern dance; the charts do not connect class location with dance type. To strengthen the response, report the main age-group contrasts directly and avoid implying relationships between the two charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about locations and dance types. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “while” signal comparison. However, progression is not consistently clear: the third paragraph combines community-hall percentages with modern-dance figures as though they were related, then shifts to school halls and tap. The final paragraph returns to private studios and ballet without a clear comparison linking the two charts. Some linking phrases, including “At a fleeting glance,” feel awkward rather than helpful, and “In addition” is not followed by clear punctuation. Group the location figures together, then compare dance types by age, using straightforward transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “accounted,” “preferable,” “categories,” and “popular,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “at a fleeting glance” and “accounted for 18% of stake,” but these are not natural or precise in this context. “Western dance form” is not a clear label for any category shown, and “underage groups” is an unsuitable description of the age band. Spelling errors such as “noticable” and inconsistent forms such as “college based” reduce accuracy. Aim for conventional chart language and precise labels: for example, “accounted for 18%,” “students under 11,” and “modern dance.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and clauses describing age groups. However, errors in sentence structure and agreement are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to follow. For example, “The pie chart and bar graph represents” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “youngsters currently attending of type” is not a complete, well-formed construction. In “The school halls is accounted for quarter,” the verb pattern and article are incorrect. The sentence beginning “At a fleeting glance” also becomes overloaded, making the relationship between its clauses unclear. Practise accurate chart-reporting patterns such as “The charts show…,” “Private studios account for…,” and “The number of students taking ballet was…” before adding longer clauses.
