Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both chart topics and report several relevant figures, including 48% for private studios, 10% for college-based studios, and the ballet totals of 600 and 300. However, the overview is limited mainly to the location chart, and the age-group comparisons are often vague or inaccurate. For example, you say under-11 students in tap are more numerous, but the chart shows about 450 under-11s compared with 420 aged 11–16; this is a small difference, not a clear contrast. The modern comparison is clearer, but the exact figures would make it more informative. To strengthen the response, give an overview covering both charts and report the main contrasts across all three dance styles accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a paragraph on locations, a paragraph on dance types, and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “While” and “In conclusion” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within the types paragraph is difficult to follow because the comparisons are repeated in a similar “number of students” pattern without figures or clear ordering. “I will discuss” is also an unnecessary signpost rather than a direct transition. The conclusion repeats the private-studio point instead of drawing together the main features of both charts. Grouping the age-group comparisons by dance style and using clear contrast links would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “Ballet,” “Tap,” and “Modern,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning less clear, such as “dance location,” “college base studios,” and “dance classes location percentage.” Spelling errors including “danse,” “locatin,” and “clses” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “very high,” “very low,” and “number of students” limits precision when describing comparisons. Build a small set of accurate chart phrases, such as “accounted for,” “was the most popular,” and “the figure stood at,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to form longer comparisons are often inaccurate. For example, “The chart illustrates about a location…” has an unnecessary structure, while “In Ballet of under 11 number of students are started 100 and ending 600” has problems with articles, word order, and verb forms. Agreement is also inconsistent in “school halls is 24 percent,” and the sentence beginning “While in Modern…” is not a complete independent sentence. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison hard to follow. Practise accurate basic reporting structures first, such as “The figure for under-11 ballet students was 600,” then combine them with controlled comparative clauses using “whereas” or “compared with.”
