Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both charts and include the main location figures, correctly noting that private studios are the largest category at 48% and college-based studios the smallest at 10%. However, the overview contains a major misreading: “the number of students is under 11 is higher than 11–16 years” is not true overall, since the older group has more students in total. The dance-class comparisons are also incomplete and partly inaccurate. Ballet is highest only for under-11s; among 11–16-year-olds, modern is highest. The claim that tap and modern have the same numbers is unsupported. To strengthen the response, give a clear, accurate overview and compare the age groups across all three styles using the chart’s key contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the location and class-type charts. This helps the reader identify the two topics. However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements, particularly the overview’s claim that under-11s outnumber the older group and the later assertion that ballet is the most popular for both. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Whereas,” and “Furthermore” are used, but some connections are awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. The final paragraph also combines several comparisons without a clear sequence. Organise the class data by age group or dance style, and use direct comparisons to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “private studios,” “college based studios,” “age group,” and “number of students,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “significant decline” and “participated.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “decline” suggests a change over time, while the chart compares categories, and “shows the highest in all four locations” does not express the intended ranking clearly. “Performed the tasks” is also unsuitable for describing dance-class enrolment. Spelling errors such as “curently” are noticeable. Aim for precise terms such as “largest share,” “accounted for,” and “enrolled in,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and several errors make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “The pie chart and bar chart illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “private studios shows” repeats this problem. The sentence “The number of students is under 11 is higher than 11-16 years” is structurally faulty, and “600 is under 11 years and 11-16 is comparable the half” lacks clear grammatical links. Some sentence fragments or incomplete constructions also appear, such as “Where the types of dance classes are ballet, tap and modern.” Practise forming complete comparison sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use simpler structures reliably before adding subordinate clauses.
