Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios account for the largest share (48%), while college-based studios are lowest (10%), and you include the school and community figures. You also make a relevant comparison for ballet, reporting 600 students under 11 versus 300 aged 11–16. However, the overview misstates the age range as “11-12” in the introduction, and says ballet was more common among those “11 or younger” while the chart labels this group “Under 11.” More importantly, the response stops before reporting the tap and modern figures, so the age-group chart is only partly summarised; the claim that older students “usually took modern” is not supported as a full comparison. Cover all three dance styles and give a precise overview of their contrasting patterns to develop the response more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the location chart and the bar chart. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Meanwhile” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is incomplete: the final paragraph ends with “Additionally,” and does not finish the discussion, leaving the bar-chart information without a clear conclusion. Some connections are also awkward or repetitive, and the overview combines several claims without clearly distinguishing the two charts. Organise the body into complete paragraphs, report all three dance styles in a logical sequence, and use transitions only where they clarify a comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “percentage,” and “students,” and you attempt some variation with phrases such as “more common” and “were used.” However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings reduce precision: “dance classes took place” is less exact than describing where classes were held, “popular” is misspelled as “populer,” and “individuals” sounds unnatural for the age groups shown. “Ballet dance” is also an awkward label. Use concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “the most popular style,” and “students aged 11–16,” while checking spelling and avoiding unnecessary repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “as compared to,” and most of the intended meaning can be understood. However, errors in sentence construction and punctuation are noticeable. The opening comma in “The pie chart illustrates, the locations” is incorrect, and “ballet dance were” has a subject–verb agreement error. The overview also runs “studios. Moreover” together without a space, while the final sentence is left unfinished after “Additionally,”. There are some attempts to combine ideas, but control is uneven. Practise accurate agreement and complete sentence boundaries, and proofread commas and full stops so that each comparison forms a complete, clear sentence.
