Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main subject and report several relevant comparisons: private studios are the most common location, college-based studios the least common, and modern dance is more popular among 11–16-year-olds than under-11s. You also note that ballet participation is higher among younger children and that tap figures are similar. These points show a partial understanding of the charts. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: community halls and other venues account for 18%, not the largest share, and school halls are second at 24%. The response also gives no figures for the dance types and does not clearly summarise the overall pattern across both charts. A concise overview followed by accurate key percentages and student numbers would make the report more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response includes relevant information from both charts, and linking expressions such as “even though” and “furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the information is presented as one long sequence rather than in a clear overview and organised detail. The shift from locations to age-group comparisons is abrupt, and several connections are difficult to follow, particularly “those studios has conduct the different types of classes” and the final comparison about modern dance. Some linking words do not express the relationship clearly. Separate the response into paragraphs, group the location figures together, then compare the three dance styles by age. Use straightforward transitions and clear references so readers can follow each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “participants,” “ballet,” “tap,” and “modern dance,” which helps communicate the topic. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “college based studios” and “after school time.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to understand. Examples include “pei chart,” “provate,” “hight percentage,” and “lowest rate of participants enventhouth.” Phrases such as “people has take the dance classes” and “the average of tap classes” do not express the intended data comparison naturally. Build accuracy with common chart language, such as “accounted for,” “participation,” and “the number of students,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to combine ideas using longer sentences and connectors, but the response relies on a limited range of sentence patterns, and errors often make relationships between ideas unclear. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in examples such as “Graphs indicates” and “studios has conduct.” Verb forms are also problematic in “people has take,” while noun phrases and articles are incomplete in “in Australia city.” Several clauses run together without clear punctuation, especially the long sentence beginning “those studios has conduct.” These issues can impede understanding of the comparisons. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses—for example, “Private studios account for 48% of classes, while college-based studios account for 10%.”
